About Me.
Hillbilly roots. Jeep trails. Stories you’ll tell for years.
Hi, I’m John — though most folks just call me Redbeard. I’m the founder of Hillbilly Overland, and at my core, I’m just a hillbilly from Eastern Kentucky who loves his family, his Jeep, and discovering where the next dirt road might lead.
For me, overlanding isn’t about fancy rigs or expensive gear—it’s about the freedom of the open trail, the stories told under a sky full of stars, and the meals shared around a crackling campfire. It’s about slowing down, finding joy in the journey, and embracing the freedom of the open road.
Hillbilly Overland was born out of that passion. I wanted to create a space where adventure and storytelling come first—a place where we can laugh at the mishaps, celebrate the triumphs, and remind ourselves that sometimes the best memories are made when things don’t go according to plan.
So, whether you’re just beginning your journey into the backcountry or you’ve spent a lifetime chasing trails, I invite you to pull up a chair, grab a plate of campfire food, and come along for the adventure.
